2004 was an usually good year for Disneyland pressed coin collectors. Guest at the Disneyland Resort, Anaheim, California were treated to the first elongated coin backstamps or "reverses" ever at any Disney Resort. Introduced on a flagship elongated coin, the Main Street USA pressed nickel, the simple in design backstamp read only "DISNEYLAND® PARK" in a course "dot matrix" style print.

It was a hit! Often guests were surprised to see an image on both sides of the coin; some collected two coins so that one could be used to display the backstamp in their pressed penny collections. Many of the guests that had casually collected pressed pennies at other theme parks, museums, and other places, were delighted to see the "extra" backstamp. Something extra, something special, same price!

The tradition carries on. Most all coins placed in the park today, follow in the tradition of the 2004 Main Street USA elongated nickel. The feature backstamps. Some with character names such as Mickey, Minnie, Jack Skellington or attraction names such as Splash Mountain. All can be fun to collect. Matter of fact, collecting Disneyland backstamps is a fun specialty. We've even started a few different backstamp guide pages at the request of collectors.

Image is cent-size. Smaller original gripper. This coin is a part of the "Lands Set". This die with an enlarged coin grip is a DL0251a. Very similar to the DL0380 and DL0408. This obverse die, with a DISNEYLAND® RESORT backstamp is a DL0380 / DL0408. This coin is was the first elongated Disney coin to feature a backstamp. Replaced Lady and the Tramp DL0127. First on-stage 7/30/04, retired when the coin grip was modified and became the DL0251a in April of 2005.

Image is cent-size. Larger modified gripper. This coin is a part of the "Lands Set". This is the DL0251 die with an enlarged coin grip. Very similar to the DL0380 and DL0408. First on-stage 4/05 backstamp die broke and was replaced by a "DISNEYLAND® RESORT" backstamp, around 5/28/2007 making the DL0380.

This obverse die, with a "DISNEYLAND® RESORT" backstamp is a DL0380 or DL0408.

(DL0251-251a Horizontal pressed nickel backstamp image) "DISNEYLAND® PARK". Dot matrix style lettering. This is the very first "backstamp" or reverse ever at any Disney park. First issued on the DL0251 and later on the DL0251a. This "dot matrix" very early style reverse reads "Disneyland® Park". On November 12th, 2006, this die set was taken off-stage and returned November 15th 2006 as DL0380 with a new backstamp or reverse of DISNEYLAND® RESORT. (See the DNR Disneyland Never Neverland backstamps section for what is believed to be an earlier prototype backstamp tested on this Main Street die.)

Unlike the DR0075, notice Grumpy’s eyes have disappeared. Similar to the DR0075 and DL0047. Replaced DR0071. First on-stage February 25, 2004. Removed from stage to make room for the 5/2005 Magical Milestones Anniversary Set and did not return. No back stamp.

First on-stage February 25, 2004 at the World of Disney, Downtown Disney, button "A". Moved to the Disneyland Penny Arcade 8/12/04 to replace the DL0124 which moved to the World of Disney to replace this coin. Removed from stage to make room for the 5/2005 Magical Milestones Anniversary Set and did not return.
