The Disneyland Seasonal Nickels
AKA "The Disneyland Christmas Nickel Set"

First offered in 1995, this special seasonal or Christmas set of three pressed or elongated nickels was an instant favorite of many Disneyland pressed "penny" collectors. Each year it seems a growing number of Disneyland guests line up to press this fun souvenir of the year-end Holiday Season. The nickel press machine can at times be very busy as people press coins for themselves and fellow collectors. Some folks like to enclose these little treasures in Christmas cards intended for a list of friends that often are anxiously awaiting them. (Don't delay as this machine usually arrives in early November and is usually gone by early February.)

To date, these yearly sets have shared some very popular features. They usually are inscribed with "New Years", "Happy Holidays" or "Season's Greetings", the year of issue and from 2005 on each coin has also had a very nice back stamp. Although this set is sometimes called "The Christmas Nickels Set", the word "Christmas" has not been found on a one of them so far. If you would like to collect or gift coins with a true Christmas greeting spelled out on them, Tokyo Disneyland usually issues Christmas medals starting around the first week of November.

In park cost 75 cents each plus the coin to be pressed.

This error coin is from the DN Disneyland Prototype coins collection and shown here for comparison with the DL0103 corrected coin.
The 1996 New Year date is in error. The coin should have read 1997. Well, it was 1996 and it was New Years. It can happen.
ParkPennies.com interviews with Cast Members closely involved at the time, lead to the conclusion that the die was in the Park and that this die was never on-stage. The few known examples of this coin, the lack of on-stage documentation, as well as known test and miss-roll coins support their recollections.
