This reference guide features most all Disneyland® "Tribute", "Unofficial", "In-the-style-of" or "Wannabe" pressed pennies, elongated coins or penny souvenirs known to us. Entries need not be imitations, copies or fakes. Yet all are in some way clearly associated with collecting Disneyland pressed coins and were not, in our opinion, issued by Disney. They must offer a nominative use or fair use of the word "Disneyland®" and/or they must have easily identifiable "Disneyland" images and/or trademark(s). Any pressed coin listed, can not, by definition, meet the criteria for inclusion in any other ParkPennies.com guide.

Some of these pressed coins have wonderful stories behind them, others just came to our attention while searching for official issues. We believe there are many more coins of this type not yet listed. How many coins of this type are unknown to us is um... unknown to us.

We hope you'll let us know of any not yet listed so they can be shared with fellow collectors as these have been shared with you. Coins must "reasonably be assumed to make reference" to Disneyland Anaheim, not Walt Disney World or other parks.

Lastly, here are a few fun "coins" we've found over the years. They would have been listed in this guide, but, are not true elongated coins. They are: The very early Embossed cent Mickey, The Devil and Disneyland, and a Belt buckle Inlay souvenir.

Please excuse our informality. Although we are (repeatedly) told the preferred numismatic term is "Elongated Coins!", as rebellious, devil-may-care ParkPennies.com contributors we are known to occasionally use more casual, fun terms like: pressed, flattened, crushed, squashed, stretched, memory, keepsake, rolled, mashed, smashed, stamped, squished, smushed, and souvenir to describe these fun penny (cent) treasures.

(Horizontal image) PANART 70, originally affixed to a Disneyland Hotel post card to announce an event held at the Disneyland Hotel on October 3, 1970.

First elongated coin to be associated with Disneyland. A convention of the Society of Philatelists and Numismatics was held at the Disneyland Hotel on October 3, 1970. Commemorating this event an elongated penny was attached to a Disneyland Hotel post card, stamped with a SPAN logo, given a 5-cent stamp, hand cancelled and sent to convention participants. Each PNC was serial numbered. Approximately 500 made as reported to us by a post card collector familiar with the original issue.

Machine was located across the street from the main entrance to Disneyland in the Bob’s restaurant circa 1986 to 1988. Due to the similarity between this coin and DWB003 it is thought that both machines were owned by the same individual/organization, placed in operation and removed about the same time.

(Horizontal image) QUALITY HOTEL ACROSS FROM DISNEYLAND ANAHEIM

Machine was located across the street from the main entrance to Disneyland in the hotel circa 1986 to 1988. Due to the similarity between this coin and DWB002, it is thought that both machines were owned by the same individual/organization, placed in operation and removed about the same time.

This coin, is believed to have been pressed by a single die Centek machine located inside an arcade room at the Holiday Inn Hotel (Now operating under the name of Radison Hotel) near the intersection of Harbor Boulevard and Kattella Ave., across from Disneyland circa 1986-1988.
Low foot traffic at the location and limited machine service time may be why the coin is not often seen today. Pictured is wide grip variation, small grip variation is known.

The collegiate Pigskin Classic Football series was hosted by Disneyland from 1990 to 1994 and played in the Anaheim Stadium. This die was made by Frank Brazzell. (The small initials "FB" on the coin are his.) Coins were used/issued/sold by Ewell Gunther in stamp and coin sets or Philatelic Numismatic Combinations, PNC sets. They were made and issued in low numbers for collectors from 1992 to 1994. Coins were probably not ordered, authorized or sanctioned by Disney. Status of the die is unknown. As reported by Ewell Gunther, the PNC issuer, when first rolled, 250 pennies, 10 nickels and 5 dimes were made.

Dies and coins made by Ray Dillard for the annual meeting of TEC (The Elongated Collectors) at the 104th meeting of the American Numismatic Association (ANA) in Anaheim, California, in 1995. There are 2 basic designs rolled on cents, nickels, dimes, quarters and half dollars, which were sold individually and in sets. In addition specific award designs were also made.
