The First Disneyland Penny Press Machine Marquees

We are very happy to share these pictures of the first two vintage Disneyland penny press machine marquees. Well, technically, they are the first two Disney pressed penny marquees as Disneyland was the first Disney park to have a penny press. Pressed Penny Smiley The pictures are courtesy of a very nice person who offered to share them with us. (Lots of very nice people in the penny pressing world!)

Although these pressers were not on-stage very long, they made history. Matter of fact, the Mickey Mouse Rays coin pictured on the first marquee shares a very similar design to the very first known Disneyland penny ever pressed, the DN0001 "pattern" coin. An image that has frequented the park ever since as you can see on this page of Mickey Mouse pressed pennies.

To see images of the first two on-stage elongated coins, just click on these catalog number links DL0001 and DL0002. The coin shown when you click on the DN0001 link is a very accurate computer generated image. We’ve been looking for the real thing for fifteen years already... gotta have one soon!
Note Late in 2004, thanks to the help of ParkPennies.com readers, we were able to secure a scan of the real DN0001 coin as now shown.
