Update!
Here is a picture of the good humored Bill Hogarth holding one of his retirement gifts, his legendary framed set of Disneyland elongated coins! The photographer asked Mr. Hogarth if he would hold the frame so we could also see his Disneyland 35 year gold ring. Talk about cool Disney perks!
When Mr. Hogarth heard ParkPennies was looking for a picture of his exceptional framed elongated coin retirement gift, he graciously agreed. (Ok, maybe we did encourage him more than once. )
This set has to be the largest, nicest presentation of elongated coins ever given to a retiring Cast Member. All the coins on stage at the time of his retirement in 1998 are represented. Additionally some earlier coins, including but not limited to Cast Member nickels were added. The coin in the very center of the set is, of course, the CM0006, The Bill Hogarth Cast Member coin. |

Above is a close-up of the brass plaque located at the base of the Hogarth framed retirement set. Yes, 35 years! Even after more than eight years of retirement now, he was still happy to help us penny collectors. I think we know why they made a special penny just to honor him.

The Hogarth Set!
This very special framed set of scarce CM0006 Bill Hogarth elongated coin variations was assembled primarily for family members. Each of the seven identical sets has a unique number from 1/7 to 7/7 and features a copper cent, steel cent, nickel and dime over the signature of Mr. Hogarth. Of note, these sets required all but three of the total number of steel cents and nickels ever pressed. No sets are known to have been auctioned.
Sources have reported to ParkPennies that Mr. Hogarth was awarded several other gifts at his retirement party. We hope to add pictures of other elongated coin retirement mementos as time passes. (And kind readers email more pictures for us to share.)

An estimated 250 current year, 1998 uncirculated zinc cents were pressed to order in advance by Eurolink for Bill Hogarth’s retirement party on May 19, 1998. A machine was never available. The coins were available to Cast Members and guests who attended the party. As one of his retirement gifts, the die was presented to Mr. Hogarth at the party. It is believed that ten steel cents, nickels and dimes (both clad and silver) may exist as well as a few copper cents (both wheat back and memorial back).
